The Philadelphia 76ers were in San Antonio Friday night to take on the Spurs at the in San Antonio, TX. Philadelphia had won eight of their last nine while the Spurs were on a seven-game losing streak.
San Antonio got out to a 8-1 lead in this game following three consecutive turnovers. They were able to come back, however, and the game was tied at 26 at the end of the first quarter.
Joel Embiid, who was questionable to play in this game with a foot injury, scored 33 points on 10 of 18 shooting and 11 of 13 from the free throw in the victory. He also added 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Tyrese Maxey scored 25 points and James Harden added 16 points of his own as the Sixers came out with a 137-125 victory. Despite the win, Harden wasn’t satisfied with the team’s performance as a whole.
“Tonight was one of those games where it was difficult to get up,” Harden said after. “But you’ve got to still be professional. You’ve got to be an elite team. That’s where we are trying to get to consistently. We weren’t consistent enough tonight. We got a win, but we’ve got to try to be better overall.”
The Sixers were able to take advantage of San Antonio’s mishaps, scoring 26 points off 18 turnovers in the win.
“Giving up 26 points off turnovers makes it impossible (to win),” Spurs head coach Greg Poppavich said after the game. “That was the most disappointing part of the game. Their grunt and their ability to just play the game is super, but taking care of the basketball is pretty important and we didn’t do that tonight. That was the bad part of the game.
The 76ers will travel to Los Angeles for their next game Monday as they will take on the Lakers.
